Overview
ActionIQ built a customer data platform for large companies. It helped marketers bring information from sources such as customer databases, email systems, and website activity together, then use it to define audiences and coordinate campaigns. Uniphore announced plans to acquire ActionIQ in December 2024. Early investor Bowery Capital said the all-stock deal closed later that month. Uniphore continues to offer ActionIQ's customer data platform as part of its enterprise AI products. Bowery Capital · Uniphore

Founding Story
Argyros brought experience in large-scale databases. He previously co-founded Aster Data, which Teradata acquired, and later worked at Teradata. Joffe had worked on data infrastructure at Facebook. Their backgrounds mattered because ActionIQ's pitch joined a technical data system with an interface intended for business users. a16z
In 2017 Argyros told VentureBeat that the company aimed to help marketers use their data “with no engineering or IT input.” That was the product ambition, not evidence that every customer implementation required no technical work. He named the marketing clouds of Adobe, Oracle, IBM, and Salesforce as competitors. VentureBeat

What They Built
A retailer might hold purchases, site visits, loyalty information, and email interactions in separate systems. ActionIQ connected those sources so a marketing team could create an audience and send it to a campaign tool. For example, a team could identify customers who browsed a product but had not bought it, then use that audience in a coordinated outreach. That example illustrates the workflow; it is not a claim about a particular customer's campaign.
The company described three jobs: unify customer data, make it usable by business teams, and orchestrate experiences across channels. Its early architecture included a database designed to query large internal datasets. In 2022, ActionIQ and AWS described its HybridCompute option, which could query customer data in Amazon Redshift and return the results for use in ActionIQ. AWS Later Uniphore described ActionIQ as a composable customer data platform, meaning customers could use its functions with their existing data infrastructure rather than treat a single marketing suite as the only source of data. Market Position
ActionIQ sold to large enterprises with fragmented data and marketing systems. Its 2020 snapshot named The New York Times, Verizon Wireless, and Pandora among customers. The company reported that its customer base grew more than 300% in 2019; it did not provide the starting count in that snapshot, so the percentage does not establish the size of the customer base. ActionIQ
The same problem attracted established marketing-cloud companies and many customer data platforms. Incumbents could bundle data tools with existing marketing contracts and distribution. ActionIQ's approach emphasized enterprise data access and a business-user workflow across systems. That position could give customers flexibility, but it also required ActionIQ to integrate with systems it did not control.
Business Model
ActionIQ sold enterprise software subscriptions. In 2017 its CEO did not disclose a customer count or subscription fee to VentureBeat. The company raised successive venture rounds; the 2020 funding total is a historical figure and does not establish revenue, profitability, or the economic value received by shareholders in the stock deal. Outcome and evolution
Uniphore said ActionIQ would add customer data, orchestration, and activation capabilities to its enterprise AI offering. The acquirer also planned to continue expanding the composable customer data platform. Argyros said in the acquisition announcement that “the future of CDPs is AI and CX Agents.” This is the founder's view of the opportunity, not proof of future performance. Bowery Capital reported that the acquisition closed in late December 2024 and used stock rather than cash. The value and terms of that stock were not disclosed in the source. Uniphore's current ActionIQ page describes the product as an acquired offering, so the company acquisition did not simply make the customer data capability disappear. Bowery · Uniphore
Key Lessons
ActionIQ shows how technical infrastructure can support a business-user product when the underlying data is fragmented. It also shows the distribution challenge of selling that capability alongside large marketing suites. Its acquisition establishes an ownership change and an announced product strategy, not the undisclosed financial return.
